Looking for fun and engaging writing centers for Kindergarten? This resource adds a twist to the typical Roll a Story activity!

Your Kindergarten students will love this method of Fall Writing!

Students will use a story dice to generate ideas for their original story.

Get your students excited about writing!

This activity includes the following:

  • 4 Story cubes with pictures and vocabulary – in b & w
  • 4 Story cubes with pictures and vocabulary – in color
  • Page to color pictures that were rolled (so students have something to keep track of the pictures they rolled and remember what they are writing about)
  • Story writing paper – with place for a picture and story
  • Story writing paper – with just a place for a picture
  • Story writing paper – with just space for writing

How to use this activity:

  1. Print story cube/dice on regular paper and have students to color the pictures.
  2. Have students to fold along the creases and add glue where labeled then fold the paper into a cube.
  3. Students will then let it dry and roll 3 times to build a story.
  4. If students play by themselves, they will roll the dice/cube 3 times and use the pictures to write a story.
  5. If played with 2-4 students, they will roll the dice to begin the story, and each will take a turn until there is a beginning, middle, and end.

You can use your own paper for students or have them use the story writing paper options with this activity:

1. Picture only story with labels

2. Picture and lines for illustration and story, and

3. Just lines for a story (depends on where your students are with writing).
