Directions for Students:

  • Roll and Cover Beginning Sounds – students will roll a die and cover the picture that has the beginning sound of the letter rolled
  • Roll and Cover Uppercase Letters – students will roll a die and find the matching uppercase letter of the letter they rolled and cover it
  • Roll and Cover Lowercase Letters – students will roll a die and find the matching lowercase letter of the letter they rolled and cover it
  • Roll and Trace – students will roll a die and then trace the the letter in the row that they rolled from left to right, until they reach the end of each row
  • Roll and Write – students will roll a die and then write the letter they rolled in the same row from left to right until the reach the end of each row
  • Roll and Read Letters – students will roll a die and say the letter name, or sound of the letter they rolled
  • Roll and Read Beginning Sounds – students will roll a die and say the beginning sound for the picture in the row they rolled from left to right until they reach the end of each row

Teacher Tips:

  • Laminate mats to use and over again as a literacy center
  • Use mini erasers, cotton balls, and bingo chips to cover items for Roll and Cover games
  • Students can color in squares on the Roll and Read games to keep track of the letters they have read or sounds they have identified, so they see when a row has been completed
